Who we are

Our website address is: https://restingduck.com.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data you provided in the comments form–and also your IP address and browser user agent string–so we can put your comments on the site, and to help with spam detection.

If you use Gravatar credentials to prove you’re a good actor, we’ll check.

(the Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/)

After we approve and post your comment, your profile picture/avatar will be visible to the public, next to your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. You do NOT want strangers to know where you are right now.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may eventually regret sharing your views with the wider world. However:

If you visit our login page, it will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

Standard Internet stuff: when you log in, the site will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days (so you can click on the bookmark after checking your email and go right back to the site), whereas screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login cookies will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

OR you can tell your browser to block ALL cookies.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites–in this example, from Disney.com— behaves in the exact same way as if you’ve visited the other website: e.g., click on a YouTube link, and–voila’!–you’re surfing YouTube!

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website, etc.

But know that we have tried VERY HARD not to provide links to any bad actors out there. The internet is a rough enough place as it is!

Who we share your data with

No one (except our spam checkers).

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely.

For users that register on our website, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. Each user can see, edit, or delete their own personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username, unless they start a whole new profile). Website administrators can also see and edit the information provided.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. Our version of the “morning after pill” is this: just ask that we delete any personal data we hold about you, and we will–immediately. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for legal or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
